meeting between the President of the Republic, General Joseph Aoun, and a delegation from the Sovereign Order of Malta. During the meeting, President Aoun reiterated the importance of international cooperation and external support for Lebanon in light of the economic and political challenges the country is facing. He emphasized that reviving the country requires genuine determination alongside international support, stressing the need for Lebanon to implement necessary economic and banking reforms to regain international trust.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Order’s Grand Chancellor, Riccardo Paternò di Montecupo, conveyed the greetings of the Order’s Grand Master, John Dunlap, to President Aoun, affirming that Lebanon holds a special place in the heart of the organization, which closely follows its situation. Di Montecupo expressed the Order’s commitment to doing everything possible to support the Lebanese people, praising Lebanon as a model of coexistence.
Di Montecupo also noted that the Sovereign Order of Malta is currently implementing around 60 projects in Lebanon, covering social, educational, and cultural fields. He explained that the organization continually signs agreements with relevant authorities to facilitate the implementation of these projects. In addition, the organization held a conference on Lebanon last February and plans to organize another meeting on April 10 in Rome.
For his part, President Aoun appreciated the organization’s efforts and its humanitarian and social role in Lebanon. He praised its projects, which extend across various regions in Lebanon without any political, sectarian, or religious bias. He also highlighted the importance of agreements signed between the organization and several Lebanese sectors, including the Lebanese Army, which have contributed to strengthening cooperation and achieving positive outcomes on the ground.
President Aoun reaffirmed that rebuilding Lebanon may be challenging, but it is not impossible with genuine determination. He stressed that Lebanon must fulfill its role by implementing the necessary economic and financial reforms to regain international trust.
At the conclusion of the meeting, President Aoun promised to visit the Sovereign Order of Malta during his first official visit to Rome, emphasizing Lebanon’s commitment to strengthening its international relations and continuing cooperation with supporting entities.
